Astrid currently works as: the director for Pub Choir; a freelance composer, and; a producer for ABC Brisbane Local Radio (612 ABC).

Astrid holds a Bachelor of Arts (Music) and a Graduate Diploma of Education (Sec.) from the University of Queensland, and a Master of Music Studies (Vocal Performance) from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music.

 

Astrid specialised in aural musicianship and choral conducting in her undergraduate studies, and was awarded the Hugh Brandon Prize as the top conducting student at UQ. She was appointed a lifelong Arts Faculty Scholar of UQ, and received 8 Dean's Recommendations for her excellence in music studies. Astrid also received the Griffith Award for Academic Excellence upon the completion of her vocal Masters degree in 2011.

 

In 2017, with the help of artists Megan Bartholemew and Waveney Yasso, Astrid founded the event called 'Pub Choir'. This Brisbane community initiative meets once monthly to learn a popular song from scratch in 3-part harmony.  Since it's inception, the Pub Choir crew have traveled internationally to sold out audiences, spreading the joy of communal singing far and wide.

 

Pub Choir has received much media coverage. Astrid's work has been featured on the ABC's 7:30 report, The Project, the front page of The Australian newspaper, BBC World News, ABC News 24, Triple J's 'Hack'The TODAY show, Sunrise, The Daily Mail, Music Australia, The Courier Mail, Radio National, and countless other blogs and local news sources. Pub Choir was also the face of the Hit Network's 2018 national advertising campaign, "Sing it out", for which radio celebrities such as Grant Denyer, Dave Hughes, Ed Kavalee, Kate Langbroek and Ash London participated at Pub Choir events in Sydney and Melbourne.

 

In addition to Pub Choir, Astrid was the founding director of the Gold Coast's HOTA Choir, who performed at the 2018 Commonwealth Games Festival. The HOTA Choir also performed with Neil Finn in July 2018, for whom Astrid was the resident choral arranger. Astrid currently leads Choirbolical, an SATB Toowoomba community choir who tour to Tasmania for the Festival of Voices every two years. She also works as a session arranger for the Marliya choir, a combined project of The Gondwana Indigenous Children's Choir, and Felix Riebl and Ollie McGill of The Cat Empire.

Previously, Astrid was the musical director of 'Choral Connection', as well as the 'Queensland Kodaly Choir', whom she conducted onstage with The Rolling Stones in 2014 during their encore performance of "You Can't Always Get What You Want". Other reputable performers Astrid has worked with include: Ben Lee, Ella Hooper (Killing Heidi), Lior, James Morrison, Chris Cheney (The Living End), Ben Ely (Regurgitator), John Collins and Darren Middleton (Powderfinger), Sam Cromack (Ball Park Music), Patience Hodgson (The Grates), Tania Doko (Bachelor Girl), and John Willsteed and Adele Pickvance (The Go-Betweens).

 

Astrid is a qualified school teacher, and has taught in some of Brisbane's most prestigious music schools, including Brisbane Girls Grammar School, Mt Alvernia College, John Paul College and Redeemer Lutheran College.
